Tessie Jacobson

Spokane

Tessie Ruth Jacobson is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born Sept. 12, 1906 in Renville County, N.D. and has been a resident of Spokane since 1937.

Jacobson met her husband Eiven “Jake” at a dance, and they were married in 1934. He died in 1991.

She worked at John W. Graham Co. for more than 30 years as a wedding consultant, helping hundreds of brides with wedding announcements and invitations.

Jacobson attributes her positive attitude and good nutrition to helping her live a long and healthy life. She also says that she loves helping people and enjoys laughing and joking. When she was asked what had changed the most in the past 100 years, she laughed loudly and replied, “My looks!” She says that many things are memorable to her, including electricity, the wonder of the automobile and the ever-changing media.

Jacobson has two children, Jan Hanley of Edmonds, Wash., and Warren Jacobson of Spokane. She has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
