News Service Report The Spokesman-Review

PULLMAN – Washington State’s Brittany Johnson and Kelly Rosin combined for 30 kills to lead the Cougars volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Idaho on Wednesday night before 831 fans at Bohler Gym.

The Cougars moved to a 12-1 record with the 30-32, 30-20, 30-25, 30-25 win over the Vandals, who remain winless after nine matches this season. WSU extended its winning streak to nine matches and will take on Idaho again Friday night at Memorial Gym in Moscow.

Johnson, a sophomore from Phoenix, led all players with 16 kills and Rosin, a senior from Springfield, Ore., tallied 14 kills and 14 digs. Cougars freshman Kelly Hyder (Lake Forest, Calif.) was the team’s digs leader with 19.

Corina Beyer, a freshman from Bayview, Idaho, had 44 assists. Freshman middle blocker Cassie Robbins had six blocks and Stephanie Weishaar (sophomore, Camas, Wash.) had a pair of service aces.

The Vandals’ Erin Curtis and Debbie Pederson each contributed 13 kills. Match-high marks came from Stacy Sode’s 28 digs and Curtis’ seven blocks. Kelsey James, 32 assists, and Saxony Brown, 28 assists, split Idaho’s setting duties.

The first game was tightly contests from the first serve. WSU was serving for game point, up 29-28, when Idaho’s Pederson and Amanda Bowman blocked an attack from Beyer and tied the game.

Bowman’s kill put the Vandals serving for the game, but WSU’s Adetokunbo Faleti’s kill tied it up again. Curtis slammed one to get the Vandals a 31-30 advantage and Sarah Loney blocked a Johnson attack to end the game 32-30, in UI’s favor.
