Marissa Mykines netted a pair of goals to lead Mead in a 3-2 win over visiting Gonzaga Prep in Greater Spokane League season-opening girls soccer action Wednesday.

Alyshah Smith scored the game-winner in the 70th minute when she beat the final defender and proceeded to boot the ball inside the far left post. Makenzie Swift made seven saves in net for the Panthers.

Megan Lindsay scored both goals for the Bullpups, who were the favorites to win the GSL title heading into the season.

In other GSL openers, Ali Fenter scored on a penalty kick in the 27th minute as Shadle Park blanked host Central Valley 2-0. Hilary Ambriz scored for the Highlanders in the second half. Shadle outshot the Bears 17-6. … East Valley opened the scoring on first-half goals from Echo Abramson and Mallory Mott in a 4-1 win over host Lewis and Clark at Hart Field. Lyndsey Moles scored in the 57th minute and Kaylyn Plumb tallied another with a header 6 minutes later. Alix Silha scored for the Tigers. … Brittany Dillon scored a goal on a kick from 20 yards out and added two assists – all in the second half, as Ferris blanked North Central 4-0 at Albi Stadium. The Saxons also received goals from Dominique Arias, Caitlin Larkin and Kim Byxbee. Larkin also contributed an assist for Ferris, which outshot the Indians 22-5. … Megan Dempsey, Savannah Miller and Krystal Winterson each scored for University in a 5-0 win over host Rogers. The Titans outshot the Pirates 24-2.
