Duquesne players resume schedule

The Spokesman-Review

With two teammates still lying in hospital beds, Duquesne University’s basketball team tried to return to normal Wednesday, three days after five players were shot during a terrifying outburst of gunfire that followed a school dance in Pittsburgh.

The players went to class, lifted weights and were scheduled to work out later in the day.

On Tuesday, police arrested Brandon Baynes, 18, of Penn Hills, on five counts of criminal attempted homicide. William Holmes, 18, also of Penn Hills, turned himself in Wednesday, police said. He was to be arraigned on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy and weapons-related offenses.

•No charges will be filed against Trail Blazer Zach Randolph in connection with a sexual assault report taken by Portland police last month.

•Candace Parker had 18 points and six rebounds to help the United States rout Lithuania 90-56 in the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Basketball Championships at Sao Paulo, Brazil.
