Latin jazz concert, dance at CenterStage

The Spokesman-Review

The Latin jazz sounds of Layla Angulo and Ensemble will fill Spokane’s CenterStage on Saturday for a concert/dance.

Angulo’s music ranges from Latin jazz to world music to Afro-Peruvian, and the saxophonist’s own background is almost as varied.

She was born to parents of Greek and Irish descent, and was brought up in Boston, Hawaii, Los Angeles and Seattle. She attended the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and then moved to Spain, where she was immersed in European traditions.

Angulo has released two Latin jazz CDs and is recording a third.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday at CenterStage, 1017 W. First Ave., with the concert starting at 8. Drinks and a cabaret menu will be available. The floor will be open for dancing.

Tickets are $15 in advance through TicketsWest outlets (509-325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com) or $20 at the door.
