School out at East Farms Elementary

East Farms Elementary School in Newman Lake will be closed today and Friday because of an electrical problem.

Christine Burgess, superintendent of the East Valley School District, said a circuit breaker failed Wednesday while contractors were installing an electrical transformer as part of a project to upgrade the school’s lighting. The blown breaker left the school without power for lights, telephones or food preparation.

“We had to locate one in another part of the country, and it won’t be here until tomorrow afternoon,” Burgess said Wednesday night.

She said all staff members and parents were notified by telephone, but administrators would be at the school at 26203 E. Rowan Ave. this morning in case anyone didn’t get the message. Also, Burgess said, buses were to make their normal rounds this morning to make sure no students were left stranded at bus stops. School will resume on Monday, Burgess said.
