Search and Rescue plans orientation
Sheriff’s offices throughout Washington need help with search and rescue, and other emergency missions.
Spokane City and County Explorer Search and Rescue will have an orientation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Minnehaha Park at Euclid Avenue and Havana Street, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan. Prospective new members will see and learn about Search and Rescue techniques, emergency first aid and wilderness navigation. Survival practices also will be demonstrated.
Typical Search and Rescue operations include searches for lost or missing persons, criminal evidence recovery and community service missions such as providing first-aid stations for special events, Reagan said.
Explorer Search and Rescue members must be at least 14 years old. People interested in attending Saturday’s event or in obtaining additional information about the program can e-mail coordinator Shawn Lewis at s.lewis@scesar.org or info@scesar.org, or call 477-3053.
Saturday’s orientation costs $20, and includes lunch and materials.
