VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The Vancouver Giants struck quickly on Tuesday and defeated the Spokane Chiefs 4-2 in Western Hockey League play.

Spokane (1-1) fell behind 2-0 in the first 2:48 of the game on goals by Tim Kraus and Garrett Hunt.

Spokane’s Matt McCue got his first goal of the season at the 11:19 mark to bring the Chiefs within 2-1 after the first period.

Kyle Lamb’s breakaway goal after a Chiefs turnover was the only goal of the second period as the Giants led it 3-1.

Then, at 11:48 of the third period, J.P. Szaaszkiewicz’s first goal of the season brought the Chiefs to within 3-2.

The Chiefs had a breakaway attempt by Ondrej Roman stopped with just over 4 minutes remaining. The Chiefs would later have to pull goalie Kevin Armstrong, who had 32 saves.

But Vancouver put in an empty-net goal to cap the scoring with 25 seconds left.
