S. Adams homes added to register

Five Spokane residences were approved for listing on the Spokane Register of Historic Places on Monday.

Four homes at 1125, 1201, 1204 and 1210 South Adams Street were approved as the Booge’s Addition Spokane Register Historic District.

The Spokane City/County Historic Landmarks Commission approved the district in July. Owners are identified as Damian and Anne Putney, 1125 S. Adams St.; Gregory and Alicia True, 1201 S. Adams St.; and Rebecca Mack and Tim Frothingham, 1204 and 1210 S. Adams St.

The homes won the listings as being examples of early development on the South Side and as good representations of the Craftsman style of architecture.

A home known as the Victor and Georges Dessert House at 1520 S. Rockwood Blvd., also was placed on the local register. It was approved by the Landmarks Commission.

The owners are identified as Ronald and Terri Caffero. The Spanish eclectic-style home was designed by noted architects G.A. Pehrson and F.G. Hutchinson.The Desserts were hoteliers.

In other City Hall business, a hearing is set for 9 a.m. today in the council briefing center in the lower level of City Hall on a preliminary plat sought by Greenstone Corp. of Liberty Lake to develop 81 residential lots on 22.4 acres north of West 21st Avenue in the vicinity of undeveloped F and H streets.

The Grandview Commons project was proposed when the city sold the property a year ago as surplus for $1 million. The sale included an agreement to add improvements to nearby Grandview Park.
