Special Olympics fundraiser Saturday

The Spokesman-Review

Dozens of people might be “arrested” Saturday at the Spokane Valley Red Robin restaurant, but all in the pursuit of money for Special Olympics Washington.

Spokane County Sheriff’s jail deputies will be working tables to get donations for the Special Olympics, and patrons can pay to have a member of their dinner party “arrested” and “booked” into a marked patrol car, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

So-called suspects will be asked to post “bail” to get out. All fees and bail money will go to the Special Olymipcs, Reagan said.

In 2005, the “Tip-A-Cop” fundraiser earned more than $92,000. The 2006 goal is to earn more than $100,000, Reagan said.

Red Robin patrons can also donate to Special Olympics by getting pictures taken of their children with Traffic Deputy Craig Chamberlin or by buying T-shirts and wristbands, Reagan said.

The event will run from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at 14736 E. Indiana Ave.
