Pay the fine or do the time

You have the right to remain silent … while you chew your food. Local police officers will be on hand at all area Red Robin restaurants today as part of the Tip-A-Cop Fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics. They'll be serving food and otherwise helping out from noon to 8 p.m., so head on in and order a cheeseburger (hold the handcuffs). Tip well; it's for a good cause. There is a Red Robin at the Spokane Valley Mall.

Crafts for a cause

If you need an excuse to go craft and collectible hunting, here's your chance to shop for a good cause. Today and Sunday are the final days for the East Valley High School Craft Fair. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is $1 and all proceeds benefit the EVHS band activities. The school is at 15711 E. Wellesley.

Festival fun

Edgecliff SCOPE is mixing a little fun with a serious message at today's Walk for Success. The theme of the walk is "Hands are for Hugging, Not Hitting." A fun mixture of face painting, train rides, games and clowns will follow. Events will begin at 9 a.m. at Edgecliff Park, at Eighth and Park, and continue until 3 p.m. There will also be a bicycle rodeo with free helmets. So pack up the kids and enjoy what may be the last taste of summerlike weather.
