Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Readers: Are you ready to test your Heloise Hint IQ? Here’s your question: What is wild rice – just another variety of rice? Well, what do you think? If you determined that they are not the same, then you are right on the money. Wild rice is not even related to rice. It is the seed of an aquatic grass that grows in swampy areas. The good news is that you can add it to plain rice to liven it up a little by giving it a crunchy texture. Heloise

Dear Heloise: Have you ever tried to cut nice, even slices of cheese from a big block? Well, it isn’t an easy thing to do. Here’s my hint: Use a piece of unflavored dental floss to cut the cheese. It works wonderfully. Nice, even slices without a lot of work. – Susie in California

Dental floss is a great helper around the kitchen. Did you know that it is also a great way to cut cheesecake slices and bread dough? Give it a try, and let me know what you think. Heloise
