Police shoot, kill man outside Boise store
BOISE – A Boise man was shot and killed by police after lunging at an officer outside a grocery store, a police spokeswoman said.
The shooting happened after employees at a Fred Meyer store reported a man was trying to pass a bad check Monday night, spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said. An officer confronted the man when he left the store and the two got into a scuffle, she said.
A second officer arrived while the two were fighting, Hightower said. The man allegedly lunged at the first officer with a knife and both officers opened fire.
The man, in his 40s, was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The two officers were put on administrative leave for at least three days in accordance with department policy after a shooting, said Deputy Chief Jim Kerns.
