Children taken from home after raid
At least two children were removed from a home Wednesday when officers raided two drug businesses operated by family members.
Spokane police detectives turned two children over to Child Protective Services after arresting their parents and seizing two pounds of marijuana from their north Spokane home.
“The 2 pounds of marijuana was on a table by a computer, within easy reach of the children,” said Spokane police Cpl. Tom Lee.
The Spokane Police Department Special Investigative Unit’s drug endangered children detective headed up the investigation, which involved the 14-year-old and a 10-year-old children of Kimberly Diemert, aka Kimberly Moulton, 31, who was arrested along with her husband, Sean Diemert, 32.
The drug endangered children detective’s purpose is to help kids living in dangerous conditions because of parental drug activity.
“It helps keep kids safe,” said Lee, who added that the detective is working on four other cases at this time.
Packaging materials to sell smaller quantities of marijuana and prescription medications also were found at the home in the 2600 block of East Sinto.
The Diemerts were booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Also Wednesday, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Investigative Support Unit busted a 51-year-old man for growing marijuana in his basement. Detectives also found a crib and kids’ toys at the home.
“We think he’s the grandpa,” said Spokane County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan of Kenneth W. Hayes, who is facing felony charges of manufacturing a controlled substance.
Twenty plants and pieces of others were found. The pot was being grown in plastic buckets, and despite an air filtration system, the marijuana could be smelled outside the home.
Detectives also found several guns in the home at 2523 W. Crown Ave., in north Spokane.
No children were present at the time of the raid.
