Water rescue among fire calls
Crews at Valley Fire went on 190 runs between March 27 and Monday, including a water rescue and a serious car accident at Valleyway and Sullivan.
About 6:45 p.m. March 27, Valley Fire personnel and the sheriff’s dive team rescued a woman clinging to a rock near Mirabeau Point Park, said Assistant Fire Chief Dave Lobdell. She was treated for hypothermia.
Of five reports of structure fires, none turned out to be serious, he said. But it was another bad week for vehicle accidents, with 11 reported and several resulting in injuries, Lobdell said.
A three-car accident at 7 p.m. Monday injured seven people, including a pregnant woman and an 8-year-old. Two of the victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the wreck closed Sullivan for several hours.
Less serious calls to the department included seven fire alarms, all false, Lobdell said.
Firefighters also handled three hazardous materials incidents involving broken gas lines.
On March 29 a 3 year old fell from a third-story balcony and was evaluated by medical personnel but wasn’t seriously injured, Lobdell said.
A dog bite, a reported brush fire and 147 emergency medical calls rounded out the week, he said.
