Get out, get going

Thundering hooves

» Horse lovers, take note. The Northwest Interstate Spring Fling, hosted by the Northwest Interstate Quarter Horse Association, is taking place this weekend at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St. The show will feature competitions in jumping, barrel racing, cutting and roping. There also will be halter classes and vendors.

» The hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday and admission is free. It's a great way to spend the day, but make sure to wear sensible shoes and watch where you step.

Classic movie

» The horse theme continues with today's free showing of the family film "Black Beauty" at 3 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Library, 12004 E. Main Ave. The showing is part of the Spokane County Library District's "For the Love of Movies" series.

Going once, going twice

» Here's your chance to bid on some cool stuff while raising money for a good cause – the band at West Valley High School. Silent and live auctions will begin today at 4 p.m. at the school, 8301 E. Buckeye Ave. There also will be a special auction for children age 10 and under. Admission to the auction is free. Dinner may be purchased for a $5 fee.
