Ryan Shontell hit a leadoff home run in the top of the ninth inning to score the winning run in Shadle Park’s 8-7 win over host Gonzaga Prep (7-11) in Greater Spokane League action Thursday.

Andrew Roginski threw two innings of relief to earn the win for the Highlanders (7-9).

Also in the league, Mark Purser had a pair of three-run home runs to propel Mt. Spokane to an 11-3 win over host Lewis and Clark (3-13) at Hart Field. Jeremy Carey pitched a complete-game win for the Wildcats (15-1). … Cory Swennumson finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs, including a home run, to lead North Central (10-8) to a 17-6 win over host East Valley (5-11) in five innings. … Brandon Shryock and Michael Holmes each finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs as University cruised to an 11-1 win over visiting Ferris (8-8) in six innings. Craig Keeton tripled in his first GSL at-bat for the Titans (11-5). … Matt Walsh went 4 for 5 with a run and an RBI and struck out six in five innings to lead Mead (10-6) to a 10-4 win over host Rogers. Scotty Livengood finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs for the Pirates (6-10).

“Pullman (12-5, 9-3) scored six runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by Travis Cooper’s two-run double, to defeat Clarkston 13-7 in the first half of a doubleheader at Pullman. Trent Line pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts, and the Bantams (9-9, 8-4) got revenge with a three-run ninth in the second game to earn a 7-4 win.

Softball

Sagen Cunningham finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs and knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Gonzaga Prep to a 15-14 win over visiting East Valley (5-10) in Greater Spokane League play. The Bullpups (6-9) were down seven runs in the fourth before Nicole Romasko hit a three-run double to kick-start a six-run rally. … Heather Jackson had a two-run homer in the second and Tressa Predisik knocked a three-run shot in the fourth to propel Shadle Park to a 19-2 rout of visiting Rogers (5-12) in five innings. Sam Skillingstad had 14 strikeouts for the Highlanders (15-0), who are ranked No. 19 in the USA Today National Fastpitch Coaches poll. … Mickenzie Alden hit a solo home run in the third and Central Valley (10-6) went on to defeat visiting Mt. Spokane (6-10) 4-2. … Shelby Bethel struck out nine while allowing one run on two hits in University’s 5-1 win over visiting Mead (11-5). … Freshman Taylor Bachman had seven strikeouts in a complete game to lead North Central (14-2) to a 12-2 win over visiting Lewis and Clark (0-15) in five innings.

Katie Hinrichs hit a two-run homer and Pullman edged Clarkston (7-11, 6-6) 6-5 in the opener of a doubleheader at Pullman. The Greyhounds’ offense exploded in the second game and Pullman (13-4, 10-2) ran away with a 12-2 win.

Boys soccer

Mitchell Weller scored the winner at the 54-minute mark to extend Cheney’s undefeated season in a 2-1 win over host Pullman in Great Northern League action. Evan McCain struck first for the Blackhawks (15-0, 11-0) with a goal at the 6-minute mark, and Adam Zakrezeski scored the equalizer 6 minutes later for Pullman (10-3, 9-3). … Jack Robertson scored the winner in the 71st minute as Deer Park escaped with a 2-1 win over visiting West Valley (4-11, 4-7). Matt Dougherty also scored for the Stags (7-7, 7-5). … TJ Czapewske scored a pair of goals to lead Chewelah to a 4-2 win over visiting Colville (2-11, 2-12). Brothers John and Chris Carlson also scored for the Cougars (1-11, 2-12). … Eric Alexander scored two goals to push his season total to 15, and Lakeside (12-2, 10-2) defeated visiting Clarkston (2-12, 2-11) 5-0 at Nine Mile Falls.

Taylor Proctor had a goal and two assists in the first half as Ferris (11-5, 7-3) cruised to a 5-0 win over host Rogers (2-10, 1-9) in Greater Spokane League action.
