The Pirates scored three runs in the eighth when pinch-hitter Xavier Nady was hit by reliever Chad Qualls’ pitch with the bases loaded and Ryan Doumit, recalled from the minors earlier in the day, added a two-run single.

Cardinals 7, Reds 5: At St. Louis, Skip Schumaker had a career-best three hits and two RBIs to help the Cardinals rally past Cincinnati. Russ Springer (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning to get the win and Jason Isringhausen got three outs for his sixth save in seven chances

Dmitri Young homered for the Nationals and Chad Cordero got three outs for his second save in four chances. Diamondbacks 7, Padres 4: At Phoenix, Tony Clark has his second two-homer game of the season and Livan Hernandez pitched seven solid innings to key Arizona’s win over San Diego. Clark broke a 3-all tie with a shot into the pool area in right-center leading off the fourth. He added a two-run homer in the sixth.

Giants 5, Dodgers 4: At Los Angeles, Ray Durham doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth after Barry Bonds hit into a double play with runners on the corners for San Francisco’s season-best eighth straight win. The Dodgers dropped their fourth in a row.
