Rangers 5, Blue Jays 3: At Toronto, Sammy Sosa followed Mark Teixeira’s two-run home run in the third with a shot to center to lead Texas over Toronto. Akinori Otsuka struck out the side in the ninth for his third save in as many chances.

Twins 5, Tigers 3: At Detroit, pinch-hitter Joe Mauer’s two-run single capped a four-run eighth inning, helping Minnesota rally for a win over Detroit. Jesse Crain, the second of four Twins pitchers, picked up the win after allowing one run in an inning.

Indians 5, Orioles 4: At Cleveland, Grady Sizemore hit an inside-the-park home run, Jake Westbrook got his first win in five starts and Cleveland beat Baltimore for its sixth straight victory. Joe Borowski struck out the side in the ninth for his ninth save in 10 chances.

Red Sox 11, Yankees 4: At New York, Daisuke Matsuzaka overcame control problems to defeat New York for the second time in six days, and Kevin Youkilis and Julio Lugo homered in a come-from-behind victory.

White Sox 7, Angels 3: At Chicago, Jermaine Dye homered twice and Darin Erstad hit a go-ahead double against his former team, leading Chicago to a victory over Los Angeles. Jose Contreras allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings in his 50th major league win.

Devil Rays 4, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., James Shields struck out nine to help Tampa Bay snap an 11-game losing streak on the West Coast with a victory over Oakland. Shields pushed his season strikeout total to 37 in five starts, and Carl Crawford and B.J. Upton each hit an RBI double for Tampa Bay.
