Handle On Business: New mini-mall will include Thai Bamboo restaurant

Nils Rosdahl Correspondent

Last week, readers responded positively to the announcement that a Thai Bamboo Restaurant is being built on Fourth Street in Coeur d’Alene. Now, they’ll be doubly pleased because another Thai restaurant also is under construction.

The Bangkok Thai Restaurant will be at the east end of a 13,387-square-foot mini-mall being built through Clark Pacific Real Estate on the northwest corner of the U.S. Highway 95-Neider Avenue intersection.

A 5,000-square-foot Super Supplements store is being constructed right on the corner; the minimall will be just to the north.

Bangkok Thai will occupy 4,000 square feet and feature Asian architecture.

Owner Jayme Cozetto also has the Bangkok Thai Restaurant on Grand Boulevard in Spokane.

Other spaces in the mini-mall will provide 4,500 , 2,600 and 2,200 square feet.

The Super Supplements store will be the company’s 21st outlet and its first outside Washington state.

Based in Seattle, the 15-year-old company sells health supplements, vitamins and herbs. The emphasis is on general health, followed by weight loss and bodybuilding.

The new store should open in the fall with seven employees.

Nate’s New York Pizza opens

Watch for the opening this weekend of Nate’s New York Pizza in Post Falls. It is the first occupant in the second building of River City Center at the northeast corner of state Highway 41 and Mullan Avenue.

Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, the restaurant will have seating for 40 people and also offer takeout. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, stromboli, beverages (beer and wine coming soon) and, of course, pizza.

Owner Nate Banner, who will have two employees to start, said he bought the thin-crust pizza recipes in New York and will have options of 25 fresh ingredients and dough daily.

By the way, stromboli is like a folded-edge pizza, named after an island near Sicily (not the villain in “Pinocchio.”)

Nate’s also will sell pizza by the slice, with the slices from the 24-inch pizzas costing $2.75 each and extra toppings selling for 25 cents each. Banner also will make calzones on request.

The pizza dough is hand-stretched and thrown and baked in a brick oven.

Originally from La Grande, Ore., Banner worked in Boise and Bend, Ore., before coming to North Idaho.

“Where else can you get to 50 lakes by driving 50 miles?” he asked, hinting that he plans to be outdoors often.

This week’s tidbits

“A variety of rocks and related items are featured at Bedrock Landscape and Boulder Supply near Government Way and Buckles Avenue in Hayden.

Rocks are of all sizes, types and colors, including flagstone, ledgestone, fossil rock, boulders and slabs primarily from quarries in Montana and Idaho.

Owner Jeff Murdoch said the rocks can be used for such things as lights, fountains, retaining walls and steps.

(Don’t let my wife see the above item. I’ve been promising a “water feature” for years. However, I have built a 10-foot-high, 150-foot-long rock wall that she didn’t request.)

“Denise and Terry Oliver are the new owners of Sunset Gallery above One-Shot Charley’s Saloon in Harrison. They offer a variety of pottery, fine art, jewelry and photos from Inland Northwest artists.
