Marlins 11, Phillies 5: At Philadelphia, Miguel Cabrera had a career-best five hits and Josh Willingham hit a three-run homer in Florida’s win over the Phillies.
Braves 6, Rockies 2: At Denver, John Smoltz continued his mastery of Colorado and Chipper Jones drove in two runs to help Atlanta to the victory. Smoltz allowed two runs, nine hits, and struck out eight in seven innings.
Mets 6, Nationals 2 (12): At Washington, Carlos Beltran and David Wright delivered two-run hits in the 12th inning, leading New York to the victory over the Nationals. Aaron Sele got four outs to earn the victory.
Padres 3, Dodgers 2: At San Diego, Trevor Hoffman rebounded from two straight blown save opportunities to close the door on Los Angeles, sealing a win for Greg Maddux and the Padres.
Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4: At Phoenix, Scott Hairston hit reliever Vinnie Chulk’s first pitch 418 feet into the left-field seats with two runners on to lead Arizona past San Francisco.
