RiverHawks put end to 11-game skid

The Spokane RiverHawks (10-28) snapped an 11-game losing streak Tuesday when Brian Yardley drew a walk to lead off the 11th inning and later scored on a wild pitch during a 2-1 win over the Bellingham Bells (15-22) at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Complex.

Cory Powell (seven innings), Travis Hill, Tommy Tribbett and Luke Farden combined on a six-hitter for Spokane, which completes its home slate tonight.

Basketball

Jantel Lavender finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the USA Women’s U19 team (5-0) to a 74-66 win over Spain (3-2) in second-round play of the world championships at Bratislava, Slovakia.

University High grad Angie Bjorklund went scoreless during 7 minutes of play against Spain, but she scored 10 points during Monday’s 113-69 win over South Korea.

Softball

North Idaho College pitcher Kelcey Cavan has transferred to the University of Washington, Huskies coach Heather Tarr announced.
