Auditions

“High School Musical” – Spokane Children’s Theatre, Sunday, 4 p.m. and Monday, 6 p.m. at the Spokane Community College Lair Auditorium, 1810 N. Greene St. Needed: 20-plus boys and girls to appear high school age, one adult man and one adult woman. Auditioners should prepare a one-minute song and wear comfortable clothes for dancing. “Into the Woods in Concert” – Spokane Civic Theatre, Aug. 12, 6:30 p.m. at the theater, 1020 N. Howard. Adult parts only. Auditioners must perform a verse and chorus from “Into the Woods” and be prepared to read cold from the script. The performance will be in October. Call (509) 325-1413.
Classes and workshops
Art Workshops for Children – Free workshops for grades K-12 at Colville’s Rendezvous Days in Yep Kanum Park, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Classes in sunprints, sand painting and recycled art mobiles begin every hour on the hour. Call (509) 684-3002.
Summer Art Smart – Create Place in Newport is presenting a series of hands-on workshops for kids. The session for ages 5-9 is Monday through next Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day. Ages 9-14 will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. The cost is $32, plus $6 for supplies. Call (509) 447-9277 to register.

Drumming classes – Eight-week hand drumming classes in three different styles at Malidoma World Drum and Dance Studio, 408 W. Third. West African Drumming, Thursdays, 6-7 p.m. beginning Aug. 9; Middle Eastern Drumming, Fridays, 6-7 p.m. beginning Aug. 10; Afro-Cuban Drumming, Saturdays, noon-1 p.m. beginning Aug. 11. Season Arts Preview – The Spokane Folklore Society is looking for groups who want to share information about upcoming events and season offerings in conjunction with the Spokane Symphony’s free concert in Comstock Park on Labor Day. Spokane Park ‘n Swap – Artists and crafters are needed for the flea and farmer’s market at the old Newport Cinemas at Highway 2 and Hawthorne Road. Continues every weekend though the fall.
