Idaho projects get $7.2 million

Idaho State Parks and Recreation Department has approved $7.2 million in recreation grants to fund statewide projects such as improving campgrounds, trails and other facilities.

Funding for the annual grants come from a variety of sources, including registration of boats, RVs, snowmobiles and off-highway vehicles. A statewide committee of recreationists and Parks Department staff prioritizes the requests and awards the grants.

Following is a sampling of grants awarded to North Idaho:

Bonner County‘s total, $435,825, includes funding for the Sandpoint Sports Complex, lake access points and Pend Oreille River navigation lights, plus:

•$280,000 to upgrade RV hookups and campground buildings at Priest Lake State Park (from Recreational Vehicle Fund).

•$61,900 for Sandpoint’s urban trails (from Recreational Trail Program).

•$32,500 to Idaho Panhandle National Forests to replace toilets on Lake Pend Oreille (Waterway Improvement Fund).

Boundary County’s total, $157,200, includes:

•$36,800 to Idaho Panhandle National Forests to replace bridges on Canyon Creek Trail (from Recreational Trail Program).

•$58,500 for new sites at Snyder Campground (from Recreational Vehicle Fund).

•$61,900 to improve Kootenai River boat launch.

Kootenai County’s total, $1,293,146, includes:

•$902,642 to help develop sewage treatment facilities at Farragut State Park (from Recreational Vehicle Fund).

•$275,000 to improve Eagle Boat Launch facilities at Farragut State Park (from Waterway Improvement Fund).

•$5,851 to North Idaho ATV Association to maintain 40 miles trails at 4th of July Pass (from Recreational Trail Program).

•$2,160 to Panhandle Back Country Horsemen for spraying noxious weeds along trails (from Recreational Trail Program).

•$107,493 to improve to dock at Hayden Lake’s Honeysuckle Beach.

Shoshone County’s total, $51,466, includes:

•$17,466 to St. Joe Snowriders to construct a trail shelter at Roundtop (from Recreational Trail Program).

• $34,000 to restore motorized trails in the St. Joe Ranger District (from Off-Road Motor Vehicle Fund).
