People: Running with the David?
Van Halen fans, get ready to “Jump.”
The rockers have re-formed with original frontman David Lee Roth and will set out on a national tour beginning in October, according to Billboard magazine.
The music industry trade publication said the group will play 50 dates in arenas across North America.
Promoter Live Nation and Van Halen have said the band will make “an announcement of monumental proportions” on Monday.
Reports surfaced earlier this year that three original members – Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen – would tour along with Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, in place of original bassist Michael Anthony.
That tour never materialized, and in March, Eddie Van Halen entered rehab – just days before the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It’s been more than 20 years since Van Halen has toured with Roth, who left the group for a solo career.
The band carried on into the 1990s with new lead singer Sammy Hagar, and later Gary Cherone.
Securing her berth
“American Idol” recorded another first this week when a contestant’s audition was interrupted because she went into labor.
Despite intense contractions, 20-year-old Antoria Gillon of Dallas finished her song Monday, waited for the “golden ticket” sending her to the second round – then hopped in an ambulance to the hospital, where she gave birth to her second son.
His name: Jamil Labarron Idol McCowan.
Boy or ghoul?
British actress Helena Bonham Carter is pregnant again by her partner, quirky director Tim Burton (“Edward Scissorhands”).
Bonham Carter, 41, stars as the evil witch Bellatrix Lestrange in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
She and Burton also have a 3-year-old son.
Spice trade
Spice Girl Melanie Brown, who gave birth in April to a daughter by Eddie Murphy, married her boyfriend two months later, records show.
Murphy last week acknowledged his paternity of Brown’s daughter, Angel, one day after she took legal action to establish him as the father and require him to pay child support.
Coterie of many colors
Taking a page from the Angelina Jolie playbook, Latin singer Ricky Martin says he wants to adopt a bunch of kids – “one from each continent,” if possible.
“It’s something we want to begin to create this year, a family of many colors,” says the 35-year-old Martin, who is single.
In an apparent reference to Madonna’s controversial adoption of an African boy, he adds: “I want to do it right. I don’t want any problems or misunderstandings. … Some think as celebrities we can manipulate the system to have a quicker adoption.”
