In brief: Kitchen remodel up for grabs

Kitchen Tune-Up, a local remodeling company, has launched an essay contest called “Small Changes, Big Difference.” They are asking for nominations of someone in the community who has made a big difference in the lives of others around them.

The winning nominee will receive a kitchen remodel worth up to $10,000, and three runners-up will receive remodel services worth up to $2,000.

Entries must be an essay of 150 to 300 words reflecting on how someone you know has made a positive impact on the environment, community or someone’s life, and why they deserve to win the contest. Entries can be submitted at www.familycirclepromo.com or by mail to Kitchen Tune-Up at 813 Circle Drive, Aberdeen, S.D. 57401. Deadline for entry submission is Sept. 30. Sand in the City Saturday

The Spokane Lilac Festival will present the second annual Sand in the City Friday and Saturday along Wall Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and Riverside Avenue.

This year’s sand sculptures will be put together by the following high school teams and sponsors: Freeman High School and Rockford Grain and Freeman Boosters; Shadle Park High School and Becker Buick; North Central High School and First Team Construction; Gonzaga Prep and L&M Truck Sales; Central Valley High School and Rouse’s Towing; and Medical Lake High School and Les Schwab.

There will also be corporate teams from Sterling Bank and Windermere Realty.

The event will also include two sand boxes for children.
