Religion notebook: Common Ground to perform at Unity churches

The interfaith music group Common Ground will perform three times at local churches this weekend.

Performances will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the Unity Center, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, and Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m. at Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St.

Open house

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will hold an open house Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. The church is celebrating the many programs it offers when church services are not in session.

The programs include Alcoholics Anonymous, Juvenile Diversion and Boy Scouts. Yoga lessons, music, classes for kids and special Jewish services also are held at the church.

Vacation Bible school

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will present vacation Bible school Monday through Aug. 24. Kids in the third grade or younger are invited for games, snacks, crafts and stories with a “Water Works” theme. The classes will meet from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

Kids in the fourth grade or older are invited – but not required – to help out with the younger children in the morning, bring a sack lunch and attend art camp from 1 to 3 p.m. Spokane artist Toni Plastino will work with the kids. For more information, call the church at 838-4277.

Movie nights

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present the movie, “The Great Warming,” Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The movie deals with atmospheric warming and how it is affecting people.

Singles groups

Christian Singles Fellowship will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St. This month’s topic will be “Entertaining Angels” by speaker Ruth Parker. For more information, call 893-2865.

“Spokane Christian Singles will celebrate its seventh anniversary Saturday at 1 p.m. at Finch Arboretum, 3404 W. Woodland Blvd. Singles should bring meat to grill and a dish to share. Reservations are required. For more information, call 226-7674.
