Nationals 4, Phillies 2: At Washington, Tim Redding drove in a pair of runs and limited Philadelphia to two runs and three hits in six-plus innings, leading the Nationals to a victory over the Phillies.
Mets 10, Pirates 8: At Pittsburgh, Moises Alou hit a two-run homer in New York’s five-run first inning, and the Mets did all of their scoring in the first and ninth innings to beat the Pirates.
Braves 6, Giants 3: At Atlanta, Tim Hudson earned a win despite giving up Barry Bonds’ 759th homer and being called for a couple of balks as Atlanta defeated San Francisco.
Diamondbacks 9, Marlins 6: At Miami, Arizona had 15 hits, including a two-run homer by Chris Snyder and defeated Florida. Eric Byrnes, Mark Reynolds and Orlando Hudson had three hits each.
Cardinals 8, Brewers 3: At Milwaukee, Albert Pujols hit his 275th career home run and new St. Louis Cardinals starter Joel Pineiro kept the Brewers’ bats quiet in a victory over Milwaukee.
Rockies 3, Padres 0: At San Diego, rookie Ubaldo Jimenez threw six shutout innings and rookie Ian Stewart had a pinch-hit, two-run single in the seventh to lift Colorado past the Padres.
Reds 11, Cubs 9: At Chicago, pinch-hitter Josh Hamilton hit a two-run, tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning and Cincinnati defeated the Cubs.
Dodgers 6, Astros 3: At Los Angeles, Russell Martin hit two home runs including a go-ahead two-run shot in the sixth inning leading the Dodgers over Houston.
