Stabbing ‘random road rage’
Coeur d’Alene police are looking for a fourth person wanted in connection with an apparent road rage incident that left a Rathdrum resident with serious knife wounds on Friday.
Robert S. Rehfeldt, 23, was stabbed repeatedly just after midnight following a confrontation in the street at Fruitland Lane and Stoddard Avenue in Coeur d’Alene, Sgt. Christie Wood said. The intersection is north of Appleway and west of U.S. Highway 95.
Rehfeldt was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Wood said. He remained in the hospital in fair condition Friday afternoon.
Later in the day, Michael Macintosh Mcphedran, 22, surrendered at the Coeur d’Alene Police Department after he learned that detectives were looking for him.
He was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to attempted murder, Wood said.
Following further investigation, detectives identified and interviewed two female juveniles who have been released and not charged as of late Friday.
Detectives continue to look for a fourth person involved in the stabbing.
The assailants were driving a late 1990s or early 2000s model four-door sedan, either gray or silver in color, Wood said. The car’s windows may have been tinted, and the vehicle’s bumpers were a different color than the car.
Initially, investigators were unsure of the motive for the attack.
But Wood said late Friday that according to witnesses at the scene, “the dispute appears to have been a random road rage incident.”
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Coeur d’Alene police at (208) 769-2320.
