After all, it’s a contact sport

The Spokesman-Review

I am not a football coach. I have never played organized football assuming you don’t count flag football. I am puzzled over all the concern college coaches have about moving the kickoff back to the 30 yard line. As you know, they claim it will cause more injuries to players. The last I heard, football was a contact sport. It would seem to me coaches should be able to coach/train their players on how to prepare themselves to reduce the odds on injury. I don’t know if their concern is for players on the receiving team or on the kicking team. It would seem to me the potential is there for both. Doesn’t the same potential exist on all plays?

If they want to keep it at the 35 yard line and have their kickers kick it through the end zone, then just eliminate the kickoff, place it on whatever yard line the rules committee decides on and play on.
