Achievements: EWU cites students for high performance

“ Eastern Washington University recently honored the following local students for their academic excellence.

John Spracklen of Spokane was awarded a $1,000 Alumni scholarship. He is the son of John and Teresa Spracklen of Medical Lake and is a 2005 Medical Lake High School graduate.

Sondra Spevack was awarded a $2,500 Trustees scholarship. She graduated in 2005 from Lewis and Clark High School and is the daughter of Don Rieken and Darlene Dickmann, both of Spokane.

Rachel Kauffman of Medical Lake was awarded a $3,000 Academic Honors scholarship. She is a recent graduate of Medical Lake High School and is the daughter of Jeff and Tracy Kauffman of Medical Lake.

Natasha Babcock of Spokane received a $1,500 Wittenbach scholarship. She graduated from Medical Lake High School in 1992 and is the daughter of George and Tanya Marhon of Medical Lake.

Viktoriya Malko of Spokane was awarded a $2,500 Transfer Academic Honors scholarship. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 2005 and is the daughter of Mikhail and Yelena Kutsar.

Justine Kondo of Spokane received a $2,500 Trustees scholarship. She is the daughter of Loren and Christy Kondo of Spokane and is a 2005 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Kait Kauffmann of Spokane was awarded a $1,500 Wittenbach scholarship. She is the daughter of Steve Kauffman and Denise Dominik, both of Spokane, and is a 2006 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Hannah Houser of Spokane was awarded a $2,000 Presidential scholarship. She is a recent graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and is the daughter of Glenn and Amy Houser of Spokane.

“ Lewis and Clark High School recently announced Girls and Boys State Award winners. Students are listed by awards.

Girls State (one week government camp at Central Washington University for Junior Girls, chosen by the America Legion Auxiliary): Sarah Crowley, Kate Hellenthal, Emily Liu, Lindsey Stevens.

Boys State (one week government camp at Central Washington University for Junior Boys): Dmitry Lisovenko.

Spokane South Rotary Rick Chisholm Memorial Scholarship: Emmily Eisenrich, Semir Hasedzic.

The Spokane Exchange Club Youth of the Year Program – Merrill K. and Janet E. Nystuen Scholarship: Sean Leonard.

“ Washington State University awarded the following local students scholarships for their outstanding academic excellence.

Christina Liu was awarded a $1,000 Burgess Brothers Memorial scholarship. She graduated from Cheney High School in 2006. She is the daughter of Conrad and Michelle Liu of Cheney.

Elizabeth Wilke received a $2,500 University Achievement Award. She is the daughter of Terry and Melinda Wilke of Marshall, Wash. and graduated from Cheney High School in June.

Ladan Maleki was awarded a $600 Leroy Olsen Counseling Psychology scholarship. She graduated from Joel E. Ferris High School in 2002 and is the daughter of Hamid and Mitra Maleki of Spokane.

Keith Jones received a $3,000 University Achievement Award. He is a recent graduate of Liberty High School and is the son of Michael and Laurie Jones of Spokane.

Jacqueline Weller received a $2,500 University Achievement Award. She recently graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and is the daughter of Philip and Lavonne Weller of Spokane.

Thomas Trefry received a $2,000 University Achievement Award and a $1,000 University Award. He is the son of Keith Trefry and Elizabeth Cain of Spokane and graduated from Joel E. Ferris High School in June.

Andrew Bodenstein received a University Achievement Award and an Opportunity Award, totaling $4,500. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in June.
