CV fields subject to misuse

The story by Valerie Putnam (“State of CV fields draws complaints,” Valley edition Your Voice, Aug. 11) in my opinion was slanted toward bad reporting. She failed to get the whole story. I work for the Central Valley School District as a custodian at University Elementary, and I am taxpayer in this district.

I see a different side of the issue. I have seen more misuse of our fields by Valley sports associations that was not reported in this article. There have been coaches that spray gas, diesel and defoliants on our fields to stripe the out-of-bounds and goal lines in our fields. This causes ruts in the fields and most are permanent.

This is CVSD property, not to mention that these people are not licensed to spray. This practice carries a fine of $2,000 to $10,000 by the EPA if these people are caught. Baseball players share the same areas so I am sure the outfielder has a problem with footing.

I also do not see the sports associations coming forward with donations or manpower to ready these fields that are in use. My suggestion would be for the taxpayers to demand a usage fee to use all facilities in CVSD that are not in school functions. That way we would be able to afford to prep these fields for those associations that want the field of dreams to play on.
