TV notes: Show to test personal recollections

The folks behind “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” will test people’s memories in a different way with a new game show.

NBC has bought a quiz show called “Amne$ia” from “Fifth Grader” producers Mark Burnett and Roy Bank.

The concept is like any other game show: contestants answer increasingly difficult questions for escalating amounts of money.

The twist is that the questions will come from their own lives. The game will ask players to recall events from their past, presumably as verified by family, friends or other outside sources.

” ‘Amne$ia’ is a relatable and nostalgic game show that’s deceptively simple – and yet exposes how shaky all of our fondest memories can be,” says Craig Plestis, head of alternative programming at NBC.

The show is targeted to make its debut sometime during the 2007-08 season.

Bell rings for ‘Heroes’

NBC has scored a major casting get for “Heroes,” landing former “Veronica Mars” star Kristen Bell for a guest-starring role in the coming season.

She will appear in several episodes of the hit series, playing a woman who has links to Peter’s (Milo Ventimiglia) supposed death, as well as HRG (Jack Coleman) and his daughter Claire (Hayden Panettiere).

Bell has fielded multiple TV offers since “Veronica” was canceled at the end of last season, reportedly turning down a role on ABC’s “Lost.”

Garofalo’s time on ‘24’

Assuming that the seventh season of “24” ever begins production, Janeane Garofalo is ready to clock in.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Garofalo will play a government agent investigating whatever crisis happens to be disturbing Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) next season.

After two delays caused by a scrapped early storyline and insufficient scripts, “24” is scheduled to begin shooting Sept. 20, with a January 2008 premiere date still in the cards.

The only previously announced cast addition for the new season is Cherry Jones, who will be the president in the show’s universe.
