Dharma Day in Newport

Sravasti Abbey in Newport, Wash., will host a “Sharing the Dharma Day” on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The abbey is a monastic community in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and is located at 692 Country Lane in Newport.

The theme of the day is “Open Heart, Clear Mind – Buddhist Ideas for Everyone.” Activities will include meditation, a Dharma teaching by Bhikshuni Thubten Chodron, a potluck lunch and tours of the abbey.

Anniversary celebration

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Spokane will celebrate its 60th anniversary by inviting neighbors to join members in a block party today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The free event will include games, food, building tours and art displays. Families are welcome.

The church, 316 E. 24th Ave., also will host special receptions following the 8 and 9:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday.

Park concert

Celebrate the waning days of summer tonight with an outdoor concert hosted by Moran United Methodist Church.

The concert will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the church’s park at the corner of 65th Avenue and Freya Street.

There will be music by Ransome and Mary Singers, The Entertainers, and fiddle music by the Pintors. A free pie social will be held during intermission.

Admission is free. Those attending are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
