Mayor’s arts award nominations being accepted
The Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission is accepting nominations for the 12th annual Mayor’s Awards in the Arts.
Nominations may be submitted by arts organizations, individuals or businesses and must be received by Sept. 15.
The awards are presented by the Arts Commission and the city of Coeur d’Alene to recognize and encourage excellence in the arts and to stimulate and support awareness of the arts throughout the city.
Nominees may be businesses, organizations or individuals who have, through distinguished service or creative accomplishment, made a significant contribution to the arts in Coeur d’Alene. Nominees do not need to be based in or have a residence within the city limits.
Nominations can be made in three categories:
“Excellence in the Arts. This category recognizes artists who have made a significant contribution to the awareness of the arts in Coeur d’Alene. Nominees are evaluated on their community participation, previous recognition received and the quality and originality of their work.
“Support of the Arts. This category recognizes individuals or organizations based on the length of their commitment to the arts, the type of support they give (financial, volunteer services, etc.) and their overall involvement in support of the arts in Coeur d’Alene.
“Arts in Education. This category recognizes individuals or organizations for their efforts to strengthen public arts education in the geographic region of School District 271. The award is given based on years of commitment to, and advocacy for, arts education.

The awards ceremony will be held Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at Brix restaurant, 317 Sherman Ave.
