Fews announce success
Last weekend’s Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Classic & BasketBALL Gala, hosted by Gonzaga University men’s basketball coach Mark Few and his wife, Marcy, raised more than $750,000 in support of cancer research and pushed the event’s six-year total to just more than $2.95 million.
“We feel very fortunate to have the support of the Spokane community and the generous sponsors that continue to invest in our event year after year,” Mark Few said. “They are starting to turn the corner and uncover possible cures for cancer, but there is still a long way to go.
“Our goal is to help win that fight.”
This year’s event included a pledge drive, two-day golf outing, black-tie gala and auction and procured over 180 Camp Goodtime scholarships that include week-long camp stays for children who are battling cancer.
Coaches vs. Cancer also raised $45,000 to help fund the local Mammogram Mobile that travels throughout the community and surrounding rural areas providing women with access to preventive care, along with pledge-drive proceeds that will go toward operational costs of the local Ronald McDonald House.
“Those who attend the event are always so generous,” Marcy Few added. “It always amazes me what we are able to accomplish in the course of three days.”
The Fews also announced that next year’s Golf Classic & BasketBALL Classic will be held on Aug. 23-24. Information on sponsorships or tickets can be obtained by calling 242-8291.
