Hints from Heloise
Dear Heloise: I live in a retirement community, and garbage is collected three times a week. Grocery bags fit my bag holder perfectly. I love the convenience of having loads of bags available for garbage.
On the other hand, my daughter lives in an area where garbage is collected once a week. If she has fat or something really smelly or putrid, she puts it in a grocery bag and freezes it until garbage day. – Lillian, via e-mail
Dear Heloise: For my weekly grocery shopping, I use an envelope with the list written on the outside, according to the layout of the store. Coupons go inside. Beside grocery items for which I have a coupon, I write “c.” That way, I don’t forget to cash them in. – A. Nadesan, Bemidji, Minn.
Dear Heloise: I just found a use for the potato ricer that sits in my kitchen drawer. I used it to rice my hard-cooked eggs for egg salad! Works great. – Virginia L. Pine, Rahway, N.J.
