Vikings slip past Bears

The Coeur d’Alene Vikings used a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the match to beat the Moscow Bears 2-1 in Inland Empire League boys soccer action on Tuesday in Moscow.

Forrest Walker found the net just three minutes into the contest and seven minutes later a miscue by the Bears led to an own goal and a 2-0 lead for the Vikings (4-0, 1-0).

Mac Stannard scored for the Bears (2-1, 1-1) in the 39th minute.

In other IEL action, Chad Mehalechko scored a goal in each half and the Post Falls Trojans (1-0, 1-0) breezed to a 5-0 win over the Lewiston Bengals (0-3, 0-2) in Lewiston. … Tyler Barley scored two goals and the Sandpoint Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) rolled to an 8-0 victory over the Lakeland Hawks (0-2, 0-2) in Rathdrum.

“In Intermountain League play, Miguel Mendez tallied two goals and two assists – all in the second half – and the Bonners Ferry Badgers (4-0, 1-0) cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Orofino Maniacs (0-1, 0-1) in Bonners Ferry. Mendez assisted on goals by Andrew Galloway in the 62nd and 74th minutes.

Girls soccer

Sadie Simon scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Coeur d’Alene Vikings (1-0, 1-0) to a 4-0 victory over the Moscow Bears (0-1, 0-1) in an Inland Empire League opener in Coeur d’Alene.

Simon assisted on a pair of first-half goals and then found the net one minute into the second half.

In other IEL action, Lauren Nuxoll scored on a penalty kick at the 15-minute mark and Rebecca Anderson notched a goal with 11 minutes remaining to carry the Lewiston Bengals (1-1, 1-1) to a 2-0 victory over the Post Falls Trojans (0-1-1, 0-1-1) in Post Falls. Hannah Slinkard turned away seven shots on goal en route to the shutout. … Bailey Hewitt netted two goals and the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0) topped the Lakeland Hawks (0-2-1, 0-2-1) 3-1.
