Steve Natho set a Washington Class 2A state championship game record with three rushing touchdowns, and Prosser teammate Kirby Moore set a state single-season record with his 29th touchdown catch as the Mustangs rolled to the title Saturday with a 42-7 rout of Burlington-Edison at the Tacoma Dome.

The crown was the first for Prosser at the 2A level and its fourth overall. The Mustangs, who finished the season 14-0, won 3A championships in 1992, 1993 and 1999.

They came within 37 seconds of the first shutout in 2A title-game history before Burlington-Edison finally scored. The Tigers, seeking their second state title (they won the 3A game in 1986) wound up with a 12-2 record.

Natho scored three consecutive touchdowns for Prosser: a 1-yard run in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead; a 3-yarder later in the second to make it 21-0; and a 28-yard run in the third, putting the Mustangs up 28-0. Natho finished the game with 93 yards on 16 carries.

2B

Kevin Baffney threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another as DeSales beat Toutle Lake 30-0 in the State 2B championship game.

DeSales (12-0) held Toutle Lake (10-3) to negative yards until midway through the third quarter. The Ducks managed 55 yards in total offense for the game.

Baffney connected with Tim Richard for a 41-yard touchdown pass with 3:69 remaining in the first quarter to give the Irish a 7-0 lead.

For the game, Baffney was 18 of 27 with no interceptions.

1A

Austin Allred ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, leading Royal to the State 1A championship with a 28-16 victory against Connell.

That gave the Knights their fifth crown in seven title-game appearances.

They also won in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2005. They have more 1A championships than any other school.

Royal (14-1) also reversed its 23-20 regular-season loss to the Eagles.

Connell (13-1) saw a perfect season disappear in the title game for the second straight year. The Eagles fell to Meridian in the 2006 final, 27-22.

Allred passed for 229 yards, completing 13 of 24. Allred accounted for 315 yards, as he also ran for 86 yards on 17 carries.

Blair Collins caught five passes for 87 yards, and Zach Lewis hauled in two for 98, including a 57-yarder on a fourth-quarter drive that helped give the Knights a 28-10 lead.
