PULLMAN – Wide receiver Brandon Gibson of Washington State was named to the All-Pacific-10 Conference first-team Monday by the conference’s football coaches.

Gibson, a junior, was one of seven Cougars honored.

Tight end Jed Collins and quarterback Alex Brink were second-team selections while safety Husain Abdullah, receiver Michael Bumpus and linebackers Greg Trent and Andy Mattingly earned honorable mention.

“It’s a great honor,” said Gibson, who led the Pac-10 in receiving at 107.3 yards per game. “I have to thank my teammates for that; they made it possible for me. It’s a nice accolade to have.”

Gibson is examining his status in the NFL draft, but said Monday, “It’s not written in stone that I’m leaving or anything, I’m just being evaluated right now.”

Brink, who passed for 3,818 yards this year, the second-highest single-season total in WSU history, was named second team for the second consecutive season. He was also an honorable mention selection as a redshirt freshman.

“He played great this year,” Gibson said of Brink. “He wanted to come out and answer everyone who said he couldn’t play or couldn’t throw it and I think he did pretty well.”

Collins set a school record for receptions by a tight end with 52 catches despite missing most of the season’s final two games with a high-ankle sprain.

“I’m so proud of them,” former WSU head coach Bill Doba said of the seven Cougars honored. “They were so consistent through all the ups and downs of the season, and the conference’s coaches recognized their abilities.”

Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year despite missing the Ducks’ last two games with a knee injury. Sedrick Ellis, USC’s defensive end, earned the Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year award. Washington quarterback Jake Locker was named the Freshman of the Year.

Former WSU and Idaho coach Dennis Erickson was named the conference’s Coach of the Year for leading Arizona State to a 10-2 record in his first season in Tempe.
