Outlaw, Blazers take down Grizzlies
Travis Outlaw scored 21 points, including the winning 6-foot runner as the buzzer sounded, to give the Portland Trail Blazers their first road victory of the season, 106-105 over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.
Officials reviewed the basket after the game not only to see if Outlaw got the shot off in time, but also whether the clock started properly when Portland inbounded the ball with 2.8 seconds left.
Outlaw took the inbounds pass near midcourt and drove the right side on Mike Miller before firing an off-balance bank shot. Outlaw scored the last seven points for the Trail Blazers over the game’s final 56 seconds.
Raptors 98, Bobcats 79: At Toronto, Kris Humphries and Carlos Delfino both scored 17 points, Joey Graham added 13 and the Raptors shrugged off injuries to three top players to beat Charlotte.
Gerald Wallace scored 19 points and rookie Jared Dudley had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte.
Toronto played without forwards Chris Bosh (strained groin) and Andrea Bargnani (hyper-extended left knee) and guard T.J. Ford (left thumb).
Hawks 88, 76ers 79: At Philadelphia, Josh Smith scored 22 points, Marvin Williams and Josh Childress both added 16 and Atlanta beat the 76ers.
Joe Johnson scored 15 points and Al Horford had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks.
Willie Green scored a season-high 23 points while Andre Miller added 18 for Philadelphia.
Mavericks 103, Bulls 98: At Chicago, Josh Howard scored 27 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 25 and Dallas hung on to beat the Bulls.
The Mavericks saw a 16-point fourth-quarter lead dwindle to three when Andres Nocioni hit three free throws to pull Chicago within 101-98 with 11.6 seconds left.
Jazz 110, Heat 101: At Salt Lake City, Mehmet Okur scored 25 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Utah over Miami.
Ricky Davis made two free throws to cut Utah’s lead to 94-92 with 3:44 to play, but the Jazz went on a 9-2 run to clinch the game.
•The Jazz have reached an agreement with Jerry Sloan on a one-year contract extension that will keep the coach on Utah’s sideline through the end of next season.
Magic 123, Warriors 117 (OT): At Oakland, Calif., Dwight Howard scored four of his 18 points in the extra session and Orlando pulled off a hard-fought victory against Golden State.
Howard missed a dunk with 18.7 seconds left in regulation and was fouled, but smacked the padding on the basket standard for an automatic technical. Stephen Jackson hit a free throw for the infraction, then Howard converted both of his chances from the stripe.
