ESPNU flap hurts GU

The Spokesman-Review

This whole ESPNU/Gonzaga basketball stink reminds one of an editorial cartoon that appeared in The Spokesman-Review when Playfair was closed down. Dog racing out at the Greyhound Park was all the rage. The cartoon depicted race horses galloping out of town, pursued by a yapping pack of dogs.

So we had to get used to getting along without horse racing. Then the dog racing interests got stupid, the track was closed and we had to get used to getting along without dog racing. Basketball is doing the same thing. Look at the Sonics. We’re going to have to get used to getting along without them.

Gonzaga basketball, however, is not making us do this “getting along without” thing alone. They’re trying out the “how to get along without fans” thing. I wonder how that’s going to work out for them.
