Winning should be No. 1

While A.D. Jim Sterk and other WSU officials are patting themselves on the back for following the Black Coaches and Administrators guidelines, they are missing the main point.

Vince Grippi’s article (Dec. 4) endorses diversity both in the candidate pool and in the makeup of the selection committee, but there is not one mention of “merit” or “ability.” “Good recruiter,” “talented leader of young men” and “superior football mind” are also absent. Let’s remember, earning an “A” on the BCA report card is not the ultimate goal here.
