Wrestling
Central Valley dominated the upper weights – including pins by Cody Stratton at 171 pounds, Jared Voucher at 215 and Vince Homan at 275 – and went on to beat Rogers 54-15 in Greater Spokane League action at CV. Justin Walker (140) and Tyler Ames (119) also scored pinfall victories for the Bears.
In other GSL matches, the Ferris Saxons won six of the first seven matches and beat the Mt. Spokane Wildcats 43-24 at Ferris. At 189 pounds, Mt. Spokane’s Jay Sicilia led Christian Alexander 9-3 and survived a near pin to earn a 13-12 victory. Ian Bauman (160), Andre Rivera (171), Ryyan Kernkamp (275), Ryan Tibbett (112) and Nate Morgan (125) earned pins for Ferris. Teddy Fernau (215), Tim Taigen (103) and Wyatt Maguire (119) earned pins for Mt. Spokane. … At North Central, Nathan Brown of NC pinned Jeff Norisada at 119 to give the Indians a 35-31 victory over Lewis and Clark. NC won six of the first seven matches to open a 23-3 lead but LC got three consecutive pins (171, 189, 215) to get back in the match. … At Gonzaga Prep, Shadle Park had five pins in a 51-18 rout of G-Prep.
Boys basketball
DW Daley scored 18 points and Selkirk used a big first quarter to beat Northport 55-44 in Panorama League play at Northport. Tucker Guglielmino scored 15 points and hauled down 16 rebounds for Northport.
“Nick Fromm scored 14 points and Ben Frisbie chipped in 11 to lead Lake City to a 54-46 non-league victory over Cheney at Coeur d’Alene. Griffon Jones led all scorers with 19 points for Cheney. … At Northwest Christian, Chase Ramey scored 10 of his 19 points in the third quarter and the Crusaders defeated Freeman 62-45. Matt Zandbergen added 15 points and John Graham 13 for NWC. Chris Miller scored 16 and Marc Soelberg and Jake Heinen 10 apiece for Freeman.
Girls basketball
Kaprina Goodwin had 28 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Northport to a 58-55 Panorama League victory over visiting Selkirk. Shyanne Wilson chipped in 19 points for Northport. Maria Villegas led Selkirk with 17 points.
“In non-league play, Megan McIntyre scored 20 points to lead visiting Freeman to a 59-33 victory over Northwest Christian. Jessica Dahm and Hayley Hendricksen scored 10 apiece for NWC. … St. Maries used a balanced scoring attack – one player scored nine points and three others scored eight – to beat visiting Orofino 50-36.
Junior hockey
Miles Houston scored two goals to lead the Nelson Leafs (21-6-6) to a 4-0 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League victory over the visiting Spokane Braves (16-17-3).
