TV Notes : ABC fills gaps left by strike

From Wire Reports The Spokesman-Review

ABC has become the last of the four big networks to offer a makeshift plan for filling gaps left by the writers’ strike. It includes:

“”Lost” returning at 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. It replaces “Grey’s Anatomy.”

“”According to Jim” returning at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. Beginning Jan. 8, it will be followed at 9:30 p.m. by “Carpoolers,” which still has new episodes.

“Two new, scripted shows. “Cashmere Mafia” (10 p.m. Wednesdays, following a debut on Thursday, Jan. 3) focuses on four powerful women (including Lucy Liu and Frances O’Connor). “Eli Stone” (debuting at 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31) is about a self-centered lawyer who changes his attitude after he begins talking to departed loved ones.

“Two new reality shows. “Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann” (starting 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7) is a “Dancing With the Stars” spin-off. “Oprah’s Big Give,” featuring the talk host helping people, debuts at 9 p.m. Sunday, March 2, six days after the Winfrey-produced remake of “A Raisin in the Sun.”

“Several returning reality shows. “Wife Swap” and “Supernanny” arrive at 8 and 9 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday, Jan. 2. “Dancing With the Stars” and the “Bachelor” return at 8 and 10 p.m. Monday, March 17. Also, “Just For Laughs” follows the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, then will air at 8 and 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

New life for ‘quarterlife’

NBC has added another scripted show to its midseason arsenal: the online series “quarterlife.”

The show about an aspiring writer who begins video-blogging about her life and her friends, from “My So-Called Life” producers Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick, has been airing in eight-minute installments on MySpace and at quarterlife.com for the past month.

NBC will repackage the online episodes into six one-hour shows airing at 9 p.m. Mondays starting Feb. 18, taking the place of “Deal or No Deal.”

‘Captain’ debut delayed

The CBS midseason comedy “Welcome to the Captain,” originally scheduled to premiere Jan. 28, will instead debut Feb. 4 in the 8:30 p.m. time slot.

The series stars Fran Kranz as a young man who moves into the El Capitan, a fabled Hollywood apartment complex. Chris Klein, Jeffrey Tambor and Raquel Welch are among an assortment of employees and wacky residents.

Also pushed off Jan. 28, the date of the annual State of the Union address, is the return of the Emmy-winning comedy “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” It will start its new season Feb. 4 at 9:30 p.m.
