He’s a good hearted Willie
Willie Nelson hasn’t forgotten the southwestern Washington city that knew him before he was famous.
The 74-year-old country singer has donated $40,000 to Vancouver, where he sold some of his first records a half-century ago.
In the late 1950s, Nelson worked as a disc jockey for Vancouver station KVAN.
He financed and recorded the single “No Place for Me” and sold it to some of his listeners.
Nelson soon moved back to his native Texas and then on to Nashville, Tenn., and fame.
When Nelson performed at the White River Amphitheater near Vancouver on June 30, he promised to share some of the proceeds with the city and area charities.
Vancouver received the $40,000 check three weeks ago. On Wednesday, the city gave $15,000 to the Humane Society of Washington and $15,000 to the Boys and Girls Club.
Colleen Kawahara, Vancouver special projects coordinator, said the remaining $10,000 would be used for efforts to make city government and the community more ecologically friendly.
I wish … Paris was more like her
Kathy Hilton thinks you might want to own a pair of Mel Gibson‘s jeans, Dean Martin‘s golf club or maybe Tom Cruise‘s autographed Ray-Ban shades.
That’s why the mother of socalites Paris and Nicky Hilton collected these and two dozen other items from her famous friends and put them up for sale on eBay
There’s also a pair of Johnny Carson‘s cuff links, Lucille Ball‘s teacup and saucer, and an “Ocean’s Thirteen” script signed by the cast.
Money raised from the online auction will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Don we not our Vito apparel
The man known as Don Vito on MTV’s “Viva La Bam” has been sentenced to 10 years to life on probation for sexual assault on a child.
Vincent Margera, 51, also was ordered not to appear as the Don Vito character for 10 years.
His defense attorney had argued that Margera had taken on Don Vito’s outrageous, profane character at the time of the incident involving three girls aged 12 to 14.
Hey, where’s the Borat at?
Speaking of characters on the way out, it’s official: Borat is dead.
Sacha Baron Cohen says he’s retiring the clueless Kazakh journalist of fake-documentary movie fame, as well as his alter ego, aspiring rapper Ali G.
“It is like saying goodbye to a loved one,” says the 36-year-old actor-comedian, who plays a singing barber in “Sweeney Todd.”
The problem, he adds, is that “every new person who sees the Borat movie is one less person I (can) ‘get’ with Borat again, so it’s a kind of self-defeating form, really.”
