Locally: Josten, four Pirates earn more honors

George Josten from Gonzaga and four Whitworth Pirates collected more honors when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its scholar All-America and all-region teams.

Josten was named NSCAA/adidas Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year and was placed on the All-America and All-Far West region first teams in the university division. The senior from Idaho Falls has a 3.82 grade-point average in mechanical engineering.

Whitworth’s Skye Henderson, Jael Hagerott, Kelly Baker and Greta Thibodeau earned recognition in the college division.

Hagerott, a 3.99 student in health, fitness and physical education from Mead, was a women’s first-team selection on both the All-America and All-Far West teams. Henderson, a Lewis and Clark graduate with a 3.72 GPA in business management, was named a second-team men’s All-American and to the All-Far West first team.

Baker, a junior who has a 3.74 GPA in accounting/business management, and Thibodeau, a senior with a 3.80 GPA in health, fitness and physical education, were third-team women’s academic All-Americans in the college division.
