S ure there’ve been plenty of black ties and evening gowns on the streets as starched-shirt partygoers made the holiday rounds, but the truly hip dance to a different beat.

Things were jumping recently in the Artisan Room at the Ridpath Hotel.

Local band 6 Foot Swing threw a late December launch party to ring in the release of their new CD, “6 Foot Swing, LIVE!

The room was full of fans, swing dance enthusiasts and partygoers who kicked up their heels. Dancers, some wearing vintage clothing and costumes, put on a show to accompany the band. Dance instructor Terisa Hawk gave swing dancing lessons to anyone interested in learning a few steps.

If the thought of a bouncy beat and a glamour girl vocalist singing jazzy tunes makes you want to dance your way into the New Year, 6 Foot Swing, along with Variety Pack, will be performing at Monday night’s New Year’s Eve dance at the Moonlight Ballroom and Supper Club. (The event may be sold out, so check for ticket availability.)
