Top 25: Wolfpack upset No. 3 Tar Heels

Courtney Fells scored 21 points to lead North Carolina State (13-8, 3-5 ACC) to an 83-79 upset of No. 3 North Carolina (20-3, 6-2) Saturday in Raleigh, N.C.

Ben McCauley had 17 points and Gavin Grant added 16 for N.C. State, which led by 12 and held off the Tar Heels’ frantic comeback bid.

Tyler Hansbrough led the Tar Heels with 24 points.

(1) Florida 94, Tennessee 78: At Gainesville, Fla., Al Horford had a career-high 22 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two key second-half blocks to help the Gators (21-2, 8-0 SEC) beat the Volunteers (15-8, 3-5) and extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 14 games.

(2) Wisconsin 69, Northwestern 52: At Madison, Wis., Alando Tucker scored 20 points and the Badgers (22-2, 8-1 Big Ten) beat the Wildcats (11-11, 1-8).

(4) Ohio State 63, Michigan State 54: At East Lansing, Mich., Greg Oden had 16 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Buckeyes (20-3, 8-1 Big Ten) to a win over the Spartans (17-7, 4-5).

(10) Texas A&M 69, (6) Kansas 66: At Lawrence, Kan., Acie Law scored 23 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 21 seconds left, and the Aggies (19-3, 7-1) took over first place in the Big 12 with a victory over the Jayhawks (19-4, 6-2).

(11) Memphis 88, SMU 52: At Memphis, Tenn., Doneal Mack scored 17 points, and went 5 for 5 on 3-pointers, as the Tigers (19-3, 9-0 C-USA) defeated the Mustangs (13-9, 2-6).

Colorado 89, (12) Oklahoma State 77: At Boulder, Colo., Dominique Coleman and Kal Bay tied career highs with 21 points, leading the Buffaloes (6-13, 2-7 Big 12) to a victory over the Cowboys (18-4, 4-3).

(13) Butler 66, Wisconsin-Milwaukee 47: At Indianapolis, A.J. Graves scored 20 points, Mike Green added 14 points and nine rebounds, and the Bulldogs (22-2, 10-1 Horizon League) finished their busiest stretch of the season with a victory over the Panthers (8-17, 5-7).

(14) Marquette 69, Providence 62: At Milwaukee, Jerel McNeal had 18 points and 12 rebounds to help the Golden Eagles (20-4, 7-2 Big East) beat the Friars (14-7, 4-4), for their seventh straight victory.

Boston College 80, (16) Virginia Tech 59: At Boston, Jared Dudley had 30 points and 11 rebounds, and the Eagles (16-6, 7-2 ACC) coasted to a victory over the Hokies (15-7, 6-3).

(17) Air Force 88, Wyoming 43: At Air Force Academy, Colo., Dan Nwaelele and Jacob Burtschi, whose last-second shot beat Wyoming in Laramie last month, each scored 18 points to lead the Falcons (20-3, 7-2 MWC) past the Cowboys (13-10, 4-5).

(19) Alabama 64, South Carolina 61: At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mykal Riley scored 14 of his 15 points over the final 12 minutes and the Crimson Tide (16-5, 4-4 SEC) rallied for a victory over the Gamecocks (12-9, 2-6).

South Florida 69, (21) Notre Dame 63: At Tampa, Fla., McHugh Mattis scored 13 of his season-high 23 points in the second half and also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead the Bulls (12-11, 3-6 Big East) to a victory over the Fighting Irish (18-5, 6-4).

Kansas State 73, (22) Texas 72: At Austin, Texas, Cartier Martin scored Kansas State’s last five points to help the Wildcats (17-6, 6-2 Big 12) to a victory over the Longhorns (16-6, 6-2).

(24) Vanderbilt 66, Georgia 61: At Nashville, Tenn., Derrick Byars scored 20 points and Dan Cage had all 19 of his points in the second half to help the Commodores (16-7, 6-3 SEC) hold off the Bulldogs (13-8, 5-4) for their fifth victory in six games.

Georgia Tech 80, (25) Clemson 62: At Atlanta, Javaris Crittenton scored a career-high 26 points and Thaddeus Young added 14 to help the Yellow Jackets (14-8, 3-6 ACC) end a four-game losing streak with a victory over the Tigers (18-5, 4-5), who have lost three consecutive games.
