Site tracks airport data

The Spokesman-Review

Airports and airlines depend heavily on numbers and flight data. So it’s no surprise to find highly visual sites displaying who is flying where at a given moment.

One of the best sites for such flight displays is Flightaware.com.

The company makes most of its money by using the same pile of aviation data and selling it back to airports around the world in the form of custom passenger terminal displays.

But say you want to know all the flights, right now, operated by Southwest Airlines. Or what if you want to know all the flights involving a small Cessna 340, over the continental U.S.? All of it’s there within a click or two.

Using the airport map lets one scan the daily or weekly operations of a given city. Search on GEG (the Spokane airport code) in “airport tracker” and you’ll find a map showing current flights coming toward or leaving Spokane. Another chart shows the daily or weekly operations at the Spokane airport.

Double clicking the chart opens up four more charts that display more detailed information on flights in and out of Spokane’s airport. Those charts show flight activity either over the last four hours, over the last day, over the last three days or over the last four weeks.

BigfootForums

Bigfoot has regained his momentum on the Web. There must be a dozen decent sites devoted to the lore of the mythical beast also known as Sasquatch.

For general discussion with all sorts of folks with different perspectives, a great place to start is BigfootForums.com. Free registration is required to take part in the forums.

One of the most solid and reputable sites is http://bfro.net — the Web site of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization. It keeps track of major research efforts, including the sold-out group hunt set this summer for central Oregon.
